The USS Valley Forge was commissioned in November 1946 and saw extensive service in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its home port was in San Diego. On July 4th, 1949, it was anchored near the Santa Monica Yacht Harbor in observance of the holiday. Residences along Pacific Coast Highway are seen in the foreground.
