The former hotel building is now part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles State Historic Monument. The hotel, designed by architect Ezra Keysor, was built in 1870. It had 33 guest rooms in the 3 story structure. A paddock is visible to the left of Pico House.

Interments include pioneers and members of leading families of late nineteenth century, early twentieth century Los Angeles. One wreath has the words, Royal Arcanum, No. 2,1791" on it. Another reads, "Palms Camp." Photograph inscribed (handwritten): "Tom Vandergrift" On verso (handwritten): "Dr. Crawford, graves, Nov. 3, 1904 = Rosedale = Los Angeles, Cal., and Baby Crawford."

June 23, 1967, President Lyndon Baines Johnson made a whirlwind visit to Los Angeles, where he gave a dinner speech at the Century Plaza Hotel. He was met at the hotel by protestors and supporters of the Vietnam War, some of whom clashed with the LAPD. The Century Plaza Hotel opened in 1966, and was the second site to be developed in Century City.
