Title Vanderbilt Cup Road Race in Santa Monica, 1916
Date 1916/11/16
Description Photocopy of an advertisement for "Vanderbilt Cup and Grand Prize" road races, held in Santa Monica November 16 and 18, 1916. (Apparently, there was no race on the 17th.) The ad includes a detailed ink drawing of the race route and surroundings along Wilshire Boulevard, Ocean Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard. The ad, and perhaps the race, was sponsored by Ford. The Ford logo at lower left has the tagline "Ford, The Universal Car". Below the Ford logo, two "Auto Stations" are listed: "Santa Monica - 206-310 Santa Monica Blvd." and "Venice of America - Trolley Way near Windward Ave". It is unclear whether an "auto station" was a garage/service station or a car dealership.
