Title Venice Lagoon and Canals
Date undated
Description A view of the Venice Lagoon looking toward the Grand Canal (right) and Lion Canal (left). In the foreground various groups are patronizing a rowboat and canoe rental venue. Signage at the upper left corner of the photograph possibly advertises "gondolas." On the pavement at the bottom of the photograph is a shadow noting "Villa City renting." Villa City, begun in 1905, was a small aggregate of houses that grew into a vast development of permanent framed canvas-sided dwellings for lower income visitors to Venice of America to stay overnight.
