Title Fire Truck Crashes at Venice Pier, 1942

Description A fire truck that crashed into Venice Pier. The attached newspaper clipping states: "2000 lives were placed in jeopardy yesterday when the triple combination truck of the Venice fire department, summoned to Venice pier to extinguish a blaze in the lifeguard boat, El Salvador, crashed through the pier decking, splitting open the gas tank. Fear that a spark from a live cigarette might ignite the gasoline brought a special contigent of police to disperse the crowd." Notes attached to the photo say: "Triple-combination fire truck (considered heavy piece of equipment) pictured right after rear sank through planking on Venice pier after lifeguard rescue boat 'El Salvador' fire".
