Title Pacific Coast Highway along Santa Monica Bay, 1950s
Date circa 1950s
Description Bumper to bumper traffic looking south on the Pacific Coast Highway was not unusual circa 1950s. Built in 1926, the Mediterranean style residence on the left side of the photograph was designed by noted African American Los Angeles architect Paul Williams for the well known opera singer and actor Lawrence Tibbett. Its address is 17720 Porto Marina Way. Near the pedestrian bridge is the former residence of the1920s movie star Thelma Todd, the address being 17575 Pacific Coast Highway. The two buildings are not as close together as they appear to be in the photograph.
