Description Bank of America grants the first G.I. Bill loan to a Southern California veteran. One provision of the G.I. Bill was that veterans receive low-cost mortgages. The attached newspaper article states "A scene which will be repeated many times in local banking institutions, this picture shows 'Mr. and Mrs. Joe' arranging for the purchase of a home under the provisions of the G.I. Bill of Rights. Standing in the background is Harry L. Kuhlmeyer, chairman of the local Veteran Service Committee, while at the right is Maurice Williams, assistant manager of the Santa Monica branch of the Bank of America, who this week made the first loan granted to a Southern California veteran for the purchase of an existing dwelling under the G.I. bill."
