Title Dredging Santa Monica Harbor, 1949
Date 1949/11/18
Description Dredging equipment and transmission pipes for removal of 1,000,000 cubic yards of sand from behind the Santa Monica harbor is shown, as well as one of the largest dredges on the coast, capable of spewing 1,000 yards of sand an hour. The pipeline in the photograph carries the accrual south of the Municipal Pier to replenish eroded beaches. The dredge is digging an island lagoon to protect it from sudden storms. The $240,00 project was contracted to the Standard Dredging Company. (This information is from a November 18, 1949 article in The Outlook.)
